Indie Game Dev Meeting Summary (October 31st, 2004):
We meet up at the "Streets of Woodfield" Starbucks. We go into the
"Conference" area. Retro64 makes a comment
about being away for so long that Curiosoft now has a beard.
We all talk for a bit. We then get down to business. We have a few new members
-- Cory (a guy that works at High Voltage) and Dan (a guy from Valspairo).
Aduro talks about his update. He mentions working on his cell phone
game and getting the art work squared away. His goal for the upcoming month is
to make more progress on the cell phone game. He also mentions putting Poker
Panic on hold for a bit.
Next, Curiosoft mentions his progress this past month. It includes
marketing improvements (such as contacting toy stores, adding a newsletter, and
other items). Additionally, he also demos the prototype for the next game -- Jr.
Scientist. Some folks seem to like it. Retro64 mentions that it's too early to
tell whether it will succeed. Curiosoft's goals for the next month include more
marketing -- getting the word out. It also includes refining the Jr. Scientist
prototype so that it's more polished. Finally, he plans on adding more website
content.
Next up comes Retro64. He shows off his new demo CosmoBots. He also mentions
some contract deals he may take (with a big company). He and Curiosoft comment
that the "big companies" don't know how to sell online yet. There is an
opportunity for small companies to make a name for themselves. He talks about
next month's goals -- including the release of CosmoBots and increasing web
traffic. He also talks about getting affiliate programs going with
"non-for-profit" sites. It's a great idea.
Finally, Brian (CableShaft) goes next. He talks about his current game called
Proximity. He shows it off to everyone. He then mentions the next steps to
getting a downloadable version. We discuss his path to profitability. He
mentions some commitments for the next month and the fact that he will work on
tackling a full version a little at a time.
After a little more talk and Aduro showing off his new character (Captain
Fantastic), the meeting adjourns.
